Community Conversation(s)

Today! Monday 5/7 at 12:15pm in Upper Tarble

The purpose of this conversation is to reaffirm our core values as a community. Dean Shá has provided the community with five queries for us to think about as we demand accountability and action:

1. What are some of the core beliefs and values that should govern the way the community addresses harm caused by sexual assault, harassment, and Title IX processes on this campus? How do we encourage the community, specifically administrators, to approach sexual assault, sexual harassment and Title IX processes with these core beliefs and values in mind?

2. How can our community be transformed by student voices and activism that come from within our campus community (and broader U.S. movements) — specifically, activism that focuses on eradicating harm caused by sexual assault, harassment, Title IX processes, and the College’s responses?

3. How will the community engage in the conflicts and challenges it will experience in relation to harm caused by sexual harassment, assault and Title IX processes?

4. Do we, as the Swarthmore College Community understand that we will make mistakes as individual community members and as a collective, and that apologizing for those mistakes does not make any individual or the collective a failure?

5. How can we care for our community members and support their self-care, as we fight for change as a community?
