“Fraternities are not the only source of sexual violence, racism, sexism, or homophobia on Swarthmore’s campus. However, because they are part of an institution that has a house, a history, and financial resources, they are impossible to reform.
Because of the institution itself, and the ways most members hold privileged identities, they are impossible to hold accountable. Not every individual in the fraternity engages in these behaviors, but they are all are complicit in this culture. The purpose of this is to draw back the curtain which obscures the realities of violence and harm.
All posts are anonymous, to protect people’s safety and to show the futility of scapegoating any individual for what is in fact pervasive. They all come from first- or second-hand accounts of the past four years (2015-2019).
These are not rumors. This is lived experience.”
